Alisgia tuksi'

Alisgia tuksi' means Dancing Turtle

Along time ago in a land far, far away there lived a young Indian girl. She did not have a name like the other little Indian girls so she went to an elder for advise. The elder said just think of things that make you feel good and come back and tell me your dreams. The little Indian girl did as she was told and she dreamed of a large dance area with people all around dancing. She could hear the singing of the men and the shakers on the legs of the women. She wanted to dance but she woke up. That morning she went to the elder and told her what she had seen in the dream. The elder said that the dream had not finished and to come back tommorrow. The Indian girl with no name was very sad but did as the elder had told her. That night she had another dream. She saw a turtle on the edge of the dance area and in the area around the fire she saw a pair of turtle shell shakers like the women wear dancing all by themselves around the fire. Surely she thought that was enough for the elder but again the elder told her that the dream was not complete. The third night the Indian girl had her dream but this time she was in the dance area dancing with the turtke shell shakers around her legs and the turtle was sitting in a place of honor inside the area. She danced on and on in her dream. When she awoke the next morning she was exausted but she went to the elder. The elder smiled the whole time while she told of her dream. When she was done the elder said now you have a name and it is Turtle Dancing. You also have the great honor of keeper of the womens turtle shell shakers that we have when we dance. Turtle Dancing was very happy indead for now she had a name.
